Jill DeGroff is the author and illustrator of "Lush Life; Portraits from the Bar". She has painted hundreds of portraits of bartenders, musicians, writers, artists, gypsies, and other colorful characters she encounters in bars around the world. Jill has had the privilege of pursuing her craft in the company of the spirits industry's most seasoned experts, and has captured an international following among mixologists and bartenders. Drawing inspiration from the dark world of Otto Dix's Weimar Republic, Jill's uncanny renditions pulsate with soul and character. "I look for subjects who have great faces and powerful personalities. Their spirit usually fights its way to the page regardless of how much skill I employ. There's some kind of magic that kicks in. I'm just the go between."
