COCKTAILS HELP SHAKE NEW ORLEANS
BACK TO PROSPERITY
The cocktail community is doing it's best to aid in the recovery of New Orleans. The annual Tales of the Cocktail event draws a larger and a more international crowd to town every summer. We at the Museum of the American Cocktail are finally back and part of the community. We returned last summer and we now share a magnificent space with the Southern Food and Beverage Museum in the Riverwalk Market Placenext to the convention center, at Julia Street.
Our exhibit, designed by curator Ted Haigh, follows the story of the cocktail from colonial America to the present with an extraordinary collection of artifacts from tools to the actual spirits of the 19 th century many unopened in their original packages. We have stocked our gift shop with plenty of cocktail books, tools, and glassware, but most importantly, Chris McMillian has but together an outstanding monthly cocktail seminar series that brings top names in the industry - bar chefs and spirits experts from around the world to the museum in New Orleans to lead educational seminars.
This month, the Mixology Mondays Series has two presentations: on April 6th: Jeff "BeachBum" Berry will give a presentation on Trader Vic and the Mai Tai, and on April 27th, Julio Bermejo will be coming here from Mexico in order to give his presentation: Building a Distillery: a Labor of Love and Spirit. The presentations are priced very reasonably so that everyone can attend and the fee includes Museum admittance. For info go to: http://www.museumoftheamericancocktail.org/
And don't miss the upcoming Beam Brands World Cocktail Celebration at the Museum on May 8th, when both Bobby Gleason and Fred Noe return for our big bash. Chris McMillian and I will attempt to create the largest flaming Mint Julep to ever light up the Big Easy, and we've got some of the finest restaurants coming by to serve our guests delicious food! It's a fundraiser for the museum...you can buy your tickets for it right here:
